In each of the past eight years, Law360 has included Mayer Brown in its “Global 20” list of law firms that had “the biggest global presence and handled the most large, significant and groundbreaking international and cross-border matters over the past year.”
Our one firm culture is a fundamental asset in serving our clients around the world. Our global platform is built to serve the growing needs of our clients, whose businesses and matters are increasingly multi-jurisdictional in nature. We have a proven record of managing complex multi-jurisdictional projects, and our one firm model enables us to put in place the necessary global support infrastructure to meet our clients’ objectives in a seamless manner, including where necessary with dedicated project managers, process mapping tools and state-of-the-art technology.
Where appropriate, we draw on external third-party resources (for example, forensic accounting, data processing and third-party screening services). We have extensive experience of deploying such resources, while retaining legally robust procedures (including in relation to legal privilege), and ensuring coordination, supervision and reporting on the basis of agreed parameters.
We have an on-the-ground-full service presence that enables us to offer access to the highest quality local market experience in key business centers in Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Middle East. Our presence in those regions corresponds closely with many of our global clients’ key business locations.
Since it was founded in 1881, Mayer Brown’s geographic footprint has grown to meet the needs and demands of its global clients.
In Europe, we have more than 350 lawyers who practice across a range of transactional, regulatory and litigation areas from our offices in London, Brussels, Paris, Frankfurt and Düsseldorf.
In the Americas, Mayer Brown has a strong US presence with offices in Charlotte, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Palo Alto and Washington, D.C. While many of our US lawyers and partners are based in the United States, we also have US-qualified lawyers in each of our non-US offices. In addition, we have an office in Mexico City and, through our alliance law firm, Tauil & Chequer Advogados (T&C), we offer a strong presence in Brazil with more than 150 lawyers in Brasilia, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
In Asia, we have more than 200 lawyers and trade/customs professionals who are based in offices in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore, Tokyo, Bangkok, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and they include one of the largest groups of Chinese legal specialists in the region.
In the Middle East, we have an office in Dubai.
In addition, we have developed strong links with leading firms in jurisdictions where we have no physical presence. We regularly advise on matters involving these jurisdictions in conjunction with local counsel. We have long established in-house groups that focus on managing the network of “best friend” firms we have created in regions around the world in which we do not have on-the-ground physical presence. This includes our Africa Group, which comprises internationally qualified lawyers with experience working on a range of matters in francophone, anglophone and other jurisdictions. We also have a very active Japan client initiative.
Our close relationships with firms with local knowledge allow us to work in tandem with them to provide accurate and robust risk assessments, and provide us with the necessary insight to produce clear recommendations. Our significant experience of working with our partners in these regions provides a real extension of our capabilities and has also allowed us to develop tried-and-tested project management skills to ensure that both on-site and remote support on projects is delivered effectively.
Just as importantly, we act as one firm, with a deeply embedded culture of cross-office cooperation that produces seamless and consistent legal services for our clients, and offers strength-in-depth in all of our primary disciplines and across our various core industry sectors.
The combination of our on-the-ground coverage and network of “best friend” firms provides us with the necessary global reach to undertake internal investigations wherever our clients are located.
We have, or have ready access to, in-depth local knowledge of the legal, commercial, political and cultural issues that underpin the development of our analysis, including the identification of the business units, regions and specific risks that will require the most urgent consideration.
We have the experience of conducting large-scale multi-jurisdictional projects that enable us to deliver programmes efficiently, working seamlessly as appropriate with local law firms and other services providers as required, and providing a “one-stop-shop” service.
